Legislative Day
WDA Legislative Day takes place every odd-numbered year, when hundreds of Wisconsin dentists and Marquette University School of Dentistry students gather in Madison for a morning session focusing on the WDA’s legislative efforts and priorities. After lunch, they spend the afternoon at the Capitol, meeting with lawmakers and staff and advocating for issues important to dentistry.
Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025 ● 9 a.m. ● Monona Terrace, Madison
Gov. Tony Evers is our invited keynote speaker for the morning. Sean Kirkby of Wisconsin Health News will moderate an invigorating lawmaker panel discussion among leaders from both houses and parties. Members of the Senate and Assembly Insurance and Health committees will be extended invitations to participate upon their Inauguration next week – look for more updates as the Legislative Session comes together!
Additionally, state Dental Director Dr. Russell Dunkel will provide a Medicaid update. WDA Legislative Advocacy Committee Chair Dr. Pat Tepe, Director of Government Services Gus Gustafson and the WDA lobbying team will review key oral health issues and “asks,” including:
- Expanding access to care for individuals with disabilities
- Insurance reforms, including virtual credit cards and network leasing
- Returning supragingival scaling to the EFDA scope of practice
After lunch, attendees will head to the Capitol to meet with lawmakers and staff! Dentists are asked to schedule their own meetings (you’ll receive more information via email after registration) and will be grouped with D2 and D3 students from Marquette University School of Dentistry for the Capitol sessions.
** New this year! WDA Legislative Day Preview & Prep Webinar – Wednesday, Feb. 19
In response to members who have told us they’d like more time to learn about the issues, we will hold a 45-minute Zoom webinar at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 to preview key legislative priorities and messaging for lawmaker meetings. You’ll be able to register for the webinar once you register for Legislative Day, and a recording will also be made available to all registrants.
